Per capita annual income in Nepal is only $240, and rural areas are particularly lacking in basic infrastructure. Within these excluded areas, ethnic minority and lower caste communities are likely to be the poorest, and within these groups, women suffer the most. Girl children tend to be viewed as burdens and are more likely to be disadvantaged.

Peacework volunteers have an opportunity to contribute to improving the lives of girls and women in Kathmandu Valley in collaboration with our partner organization, Educate the Children (http://www.etc-nepal.org/). Scholarships, literacy training, and agriculture programs are all part of the comprehensive approach taken by ETC.
