In the summer of 2006, Erica Lawlor spent time looking into the non-traditional pedagogy of the Loreto Sealdah Day School which emphasizes active community development. Below are visual and text excerpts from her documentation. Click to enlarge the pictures.
"Loreto Day School, Sealdah is exactly that, a school. However, sprouting from its philosophies and dedication to education are several long arms of community outreach.... Often, in the Loreto Sealdah literature, a personal narrative will guide the reader through the impact a program has had on a child or family, and the last line will read 'and the circle is complete'.... Change is not, therefore, a static item that can simply recreated, but an organic process that has occurred here as the result of community engagement and efforts in direct response to apparent needs. That is how systemic change can begin to take place, and has done so [at the school]."
