Building of Dwellings for Leprosy Outpatients
Partners are also needed in Khanh Hoa Province to work with the Ministry of
Health on a program to provide shelter to leprosy outpatients who continue
to suffer from circulatory and ambulatory issues that greatly decrease their
capacity to work and/or build and maintain their own shelters. These homes,
which are built to local standard, cost approximately $1500 each in
materials to construct. Companion to the need for adequate housing is the
need for public health education toward alleviating discrimination against
this population, as well as other general hygiene and preventative health
education. Construction, education and health assistance is needed.
