Kenya is facing a critical loss of its parental population as people in their middle ages and productive years die, many due to HIV/AIDS, leaving a void in the care of their children. Traditionally, orphans are absorbed into the larger family, but the increasing toll of AIDS, together with economic pressures, has created a situation in which the elderly, primarily women, are left to care for their orphaned grandchildren. These grandparents are at a stage in life when they themselves need care; therefore their ability to farm and provide basic needs for the children in their care is limited and often inadequate. When these grandparents die, the children are left alone. It is not uncommon in villages to find households being run by siblings. We are dedicated to assisting our partners in realizing their development projects for their communities; primarily in education and assistance to women’s groups in Ngeta Village; help to orphans and child rescue in Webuye; and water; resource management; and girl rescue from FGM in Maasailand. For women's issues in Kenya see Kenya WIN.
