We are looking for a Global Village university partner to work with us in villages surrounding Calcutta. Schools in these areas are often radically overcrowded, with an extremely high ratio of students per teacher. Often teachers’ salaries will only be provided if there is a classroom for them to utilize. Our work in India begins with constructing, repairing or expanding schools. We are inspired by our local partner’s model of value-based education that puts service to others at the heart of the curriculum, which allows schools to become primary catalysts for community development. We work with students, teachers, PTAs and community representatives to identify priority community needs and together create an action plan toward alleviating them. We also encourage medical teams, and are seeking medical schools with a commitment to rural and family medicine in a challenging setting to partner with us in these communities.
