Child streetism is on the rise in Ghana's capital of Accra. The work of Peacework and our partners in Ghana is found upon a holistic approach to this population. The needs of men, women, and children living on the street are addressed in a variety of ways. Beyond this, our work is to deal with the root causes of streetism. By assisting rural children to stay in school, they are less likely to migrate to the city where they become vulnerable to illnesses, disease, homelessness, and exploitation by adults.
Our partners in Accra are focused on two main project areas known as the “Rural Education Sponsorship” and “Outreach to Women and Children Living on the Streets.” Through a Family Crisis Fund, they focus on the prevention of streetism, and assistance to impoverished children both on the streets of Accra, Ghana’s capital, and in rural communities.
