Children and adults alike suffer from the effects of HIV/AIDS in Ghana. Children are orphaned at a very young age often times with no living relatives and are charged with finding food and shelter on their own. In addition, malnutrition, lack of access to clean water and sanitation, malaria, and lack of appropriate educational resources further complicate an already serious situation. Orphaned children are often driven from rural areas to Accra in search of financial opportunities in the city. Due to a combination of these factors, there are a rising number of people living on the street in Accra.
